What are the main types of earrings for women?

The main earring types are studs, hoops, huggies, drops, jhumkas, sui dhaga and ear cuffs. Studs and huggies suit daily wear, drops and jhumkas suit festive and ethnic looks, and sui dhaga or threaders give a modern, elongated line.

Round faces suit drops and long linear earrings that add length; oval faces suit almost any style; square faces soften with hoops and curved shapes; heart-shaped faces balance well with teardrops or chandbali styles that are wider at the base.

For weddings and festivals, choose drops, jhumkas or chandbalis in 22KT gold or with diamonds. For everyday wear, small studs, huggies or minimal drops in 14KT or 18KT stay comfortable from morning to night.

Earrings under roughly 2–4 grams per pair are comfortable for most people all day. Heavier festive earrings feel better with ear chains (sahara) or support backs that take weight off the lobe.

Jhumkas, chandbalis and long drops complement sarees and lehengas. With a heavy necklace keep earrings mid-sized; with a bare neckline, statement earrings can be the focal piece.

Price depends on gold weight, karat, the day's gold rate, making charges and any diamonds or stones. Two earrings that look alike can differ in price because of weight and purity, so compare the price breakup.
